"If they really killed her like this, they’d probably have an uprising on their hands! Don’t want that, do they?" She throws back her head and shouts, "Whole country in rebellion? Wouldn’t want anything like that!…They can’t hurt me. I’m not like the rest of you. There’s no one left I love."
Watching this scene in the movie, I realized something that I had never really thought of before.
Johanna and Katniss are the same.
Johanna is who Katniss would be if Katniss lost everyone. She is stubborn, temperamental, dangerous when angry. The only thing that stops Katniss from being EXACTLY like Johanna is the love she still carries and the FEAR that she will loose Prim, her mother, Peeta, Gale, and everyone else. Johanna has lost that.
Johanna is what Katniss would be if there were no revolution, if there were no hope, if there was no way to regain her agency.
I really enjoyed the dynamic that the movies built between Katniss and Johanna. Here’s to hoping that there’s more of it in Mockingjay.
